Some things perform better under stress.
Concrete material is strong in compression. Steel is strong in tension. The combination of the two materials results in a strong composite material. Where the material experiences tension stress, the concrete cracks and the steel reinforcing provides tension strength.
Prestressing or tensioning so that the concrete is always in compression eliminates most cracking. This technology is commonly used in bridges and other structural concrete construction requiring superior water tightness, appearance, cyclical loading strength and overall performance.
Arcis’s patented thin prestressed technology applies the basic principles of prestressing to very thin cast stone panels. 8 years of R & D overcame the obstacles of panel configuration and manufacturing.
Arcis panels use stainless steel prestressed tendons that continuously bond to the concrete material. Panels can be cut and drilled after they are cured. Taking this a step further, our casting and curing technique allows for the use of high performance concrete mixes that are dense and stronger than typical concrete. The combination of prestressing, corrosion resistant stainless steel, and superior concrete mixes provides a superior concrete product.
